If we see a boy at the playground she says "That's my brother". Lots and lots of questions lately. Where is my brother? My brother is not here. We tell her that Cole had to be an angel and that he's in heaven. We have gone to the cemetery with her but am kind of uncomfortable telling her much about the actual cemetery part of it. We just tell her that where we visit and remember him. Why is this SO hard. Why does she have to grow up without him. It's SO unfair.

We love you Peyton. Can you believe it. We sent up balloons ( I would have had pictures if I would have had a cf card in the camera, stupid me!!). Peyton held the balloons and let them go for him. She said "My brother is going to catch them" She also asked if her brother was going to come to her house today and if he was at church with Jesus. How do you even begin to explain to an almost 3 year old even who he is much less where he is. She knows he's her brother, but she brother is really just a word she knows. When we point out something that was his or talk about him she usually follows up the sentence with "but he's not here" I know she doesn't get it.
Anyway, it is what it is. A silent shout out to the asst manager of Walmart who blew up our balloons for us, even tho all the people in the bakery had gone home. He doesn't know how much he meant to us not giving us a hard time and just being nice. Also a big thank you to the stranger in walmart who "wow you really look cute" even tho she had no idea that she just made a really hard day a little better. Maybe our angel was whispering in her ear.

Kristin

I'm soo bad at this

I can blame a bazillion reasons for why I don't keep this up to date. The biggest is that I'm so bad at this. It's been almost a year (a week shy) since I've been here. Cole's birthday is just around of the corner again and Peyton doesn't even look like this anymore. I can promise that I will be more on top of things, but who knows if that will ever happen. Peyton sang Happy Birthday to baby Cole. We miss him and cannot believe he would have been 6 already. Where does the time go. Here are some pics.

The Power of $1
We've all witnessed what a single $1 can do if people are willing take a few minutes and mail it. Just think of all of the yellow bracelets that you see around - I hear Lance Armstrong raised more than a million for cancer research. I'm going to try to do the same :0) Ok -- maybe not a million, but heck what about $1,000 or $5,000 or even $10,000. I'm asking you to give a $1 -- not for a yellow bracelet or any bracelet at all but just for the knowledge that you will be helping families and kids living with SMA -- helping them get the proper equipment, medicine or other support that insurance may deny. Or maybe it will just be used to send the kids something to brighten up their day or even to help pay for some of the growing piles of medical bills. Or God Forbid, help the parents pay for the funeral expenses of the child they lost to this disease.

If you feel like you can spare your dollar -- here is what I am asking you to do:

1. Get your $1 (more if compelled)
2. Write SMA Hero Cole somewhere on a post-it attached to the dollar(or any other person who is living or has lived with SMA)
3. Put it in an envelope and send it to:
SMA Support Inc.
PO Box 6301
Kokomo, IN 46904-6301
and last but not least
4. Forward this email on to all of you family and friend. (or tell everyone you know)

Where is your money going?

SMA Support is an all-volunteer, non-profit, 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization dedicated to providing information and support to family, friends, individuals and caregivers on all aspects regarding the devastating genetic disease called Spinal Muscular Atrophy. Although we aren't potty training yet, we do want her to be familiar with the potty. After weeks of putting her on it and saying Pety go pee pee, Pety go poo poo, today she went pee pee and poo poo on the potty for the first time. I made the mistake of showing it to her and it kinda freaked her out. Hopefully this will be a beginning of her knowing what to do, or what I mean when I say pee pee and poo poo on the potty.

On another note, it was beautiful today (snow on Monday but that's a whole nother story). We played outside in the yard today and walked up the road a bit. We were trying out the new camera outside a bit and took a cute one. She had a bit of difficulty walking in the grass, but it's been so darn cold all winter that we haven't been out much. Can't wait until spring and things get a little greener around here.

Just thought I would give you guys an update.
My baby is growing up into a big girl. On Sat. night we drank our last baba. (I know I know. She's almost 16 months now. I just couldn't admit my baby wasn't such a baby anymore.) Sad day for me. I think I took it harder than Peyton did! It's the only time she snuggles anymore. I'm so sad. She is so big now. Has 30 words there about and running and climbing all over everything. I know it makes me happy, but boy is she a handful and she has such a TEMPER!
What else do I know.
I don't know if you guys remember, we had a pic of our little Cole dressed as Cat in the hat one halloween. We saved the costume out so that we could take Pety's pic and put them side by side in her room. Well, we are going to have to try these pics again. She was most uncooperative. She kept throwing the things an wouldn't even hold them. She did not want to have any part of pic taking that night.
My lights are not quite set up right, but this is the look I'm going for eventually. It's my first lame attmept. I'm still trying to learn as much as I can about the photography stuff and still trying to learn exactly how to use my camera and lights. There's SO much to know. It a wonder that people ever figured out how to do this in the first place.
Hugs to all.
K, D, P and angel C

Happy Thanksgiving

For the past 3 years Thanksgiving has been a hard holiday, but I have to admit, each year we have more and more to be thankful for it seems. Here are your new tricks, putting your face in the water of the tub and laughing hysterically, practicing standing by being brave and letting go, although briefly, the furniture unsupported for several seconds, repeatedly waking up in the night (this one is getting old) when you were sleeping like a pro, refusing to give kisses, even tho you did it last month.

I love you little sweetie, every last minute!

What seems to be the problem officer.....

Our darling little miss Peyton Noelle dialed 911 this morning. She was sitting on the floor in our bedroom and I was letting her play with the phone. NOT a good idea! Pretty soon I hear, "hello? hello?" I said, "oh my gosh, I think she's called someone." and I was frazzled and just hung it up. Seconds later our telephone rings, figuring that it was just caller id I answered it. "Wentzville police department, we just received a 911 call from this number" YIKES!!! I explained that we had let our 11 month old play with the phone, but about 10 minutes later, an officer showed up at our door. HOW EMBARRASSING!!!!!!!
Lesson learned :UNPLUG the phone before letting her play.

What are the chances, really, that those would be the numbers she would dial!!!

A little slice of fall....

A little slice of Fall. Peyton and I took pictures in the corn field up the road the other day. A nice old farmer and his wife allowed us to park in their driveway while we got some awesome shots in the apple basket. She also has 5 words now. Uh Oh, wow, mama, dada and something that sounds like hello as she holds the tv remote to her ear. She's quite the little deal. Maybe momma talks on the tele a little too much!!

We saw the dentist yesterday. He seems to think that she holds her 2 front teeth behind the 2 bottom ones and she's wearing off the enamel, making them appear brown. He says we need to be diligent with brushing and flossing, because if they get a cavity or decay then he will have to pull them because a cap would chip off. That scares me alot so brusha brusha brusha we go!!!

She hates it, but oh well.

Anyway, peyton loves water. LOVES it. So we bought her a splash mat at Target that shoots streams of water up and out and she can sit and crawl around and play. Yesterday evening as it got cooler when the sun was going down we tried it out. It was a HIT!!

YIKES!!! She's 25 lbs and 11 oz and 30 inches long. I looked up Cole at 9 months and he was 24 lbs 11 oz and 31 inches long. I guess i just grow big babies.
She is feeling a little better from her ear infection and the doctor said looking better. We have constructed a fire place guard since that's exactly where she wants to crawl to. Yes, she's crawling all over the house. FAST! She doesn't lift her belly off the ground but it doesn't stop her anyway. She also pulled up to stand in her crib Sunday night too. What a baby!!!!!

We also wanted to shout out to the bestest Daddy in the world. Peyton and Alex are good friends and like to steal each other's toys and give each other kisses. I don't know how many times Alex has taken Peyton's pink binky and made a run for it. Peyton is catching up tho. She's now army crawling all over the place and pulled herself up to a stand on her toy basket today. Can you believe. Standing baby!!!

We have been dealing with ear infections and I have to call the doctor again tomorrow. She's just fussy and not eating well and pulling on her ear. I hope that She doesn't have the dreaded BBV (bad baby virus) because we have to wait that one out. No medicine for that and it lasts 30+ years!!!!!

New things every day.

It amazes me how many new things an 8 and a half month old can learn in one day. Today we learned to clap our hands, to eat green beans and blueberries all by myself and to give kisses to the fake baby in the glass door of the entertainment center (did this for 15 minutes).

Peyton is on the move, just not by crawling yet. She can sit herself up like a big girl and scoots on her behind anywhere she needs to go. Last night we lowered her mattress because soon I think she'll be pulling up. She's such a happy little girl, and we were thrown for a loop when she screamed bloody murder for an hour on Friday night. She was still short fused on Sat. morning so we decided to take her to the doctor. Ear infection!!

At least we don't have the virus cousin Alex has. They took him to the doctor because they suspected an ear infection and all he has is the "Bad baby virus" That lasts 30 years according to grandma Linhardt.

8 months old tomorrow.

Can you believe. She's a big little girl. Almost 25 pounds now and my back feels every ounce of it!! This little girl also loves to eat. I think that she didn't come with an off switch. The only thing she refused to eat was scrambled egg. She spit it out every time we tried, so we just quit trying it.

She's sitting and playing a lot now with toys. She doesn't have any desire to be on her hands and knees, no desire to hold her own bottle, or any interest in the cup. Oh well, these things will come.

Yesterday we went to a carnival. We realized that 80% of the things we do with her are for our own benefit. We even contemplated letting her pick a duck from the duck pond, and then quickly realized that we would be throwing away $2 when she really doesn't know what it's all about anyway. Living vicariously through the eyes of an 8 month old!! We can't wait to do all these new things with her!

Here are the latest and greatest pics. Some of them are a little older than others.
Today is also Father's day. What a joy to celebrate with Dan and to hold our little girl on this special day. Although a piece of our hearts will always be in heaven with our angel boy, there is much more joy around here since Peyton has arrived. Thank you Peyton for being such a good one. We love you so very much.

Peas porriage in the pot

<img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; see what's become of me......

Where does it go? I look back and see that I haven't posted for OVER a month! I guess It's because I'm always snuggling with that little girl of mine.

We had a great Easter. Peyton looked ADORABLE in her dress, well until she spit up carrots on it. When will she out grow that. She's getting so big now. She's already 22 pounds and in her big girl car seat. Pretty soon she will be crawling and walking.

6 months old next week. It seems to be flying by.

We have thrush now. It's not really affecting her eating, but since that's how all the SMA stuff started in the first place we were taken a back a little bit. As for the Nysatin that Cole hated with all his being, Peyton likes it and tries to suck on the syringe. YEECH!!!!

Here are the latest pics from Easter...... You saw the doctor last week and you weighed 16 pounds 3 oz and were 24 1/2 inches long. You are off the charts little girl. We were slammed with another ice storm over the weekend and your aunt zan, uncle justin, cousin alex and grammie all had a sleepover. You sure are catching up to him. You are growing and changing every day. You have started to smile, although you are quite stingy with them still. You also have started to show preference to specific toys and bat at them with your hands. You get bigger and smarter every day. We are celebrating Christmas with your Grandma and Grandpa Webb this weekend. You have received many presents. You are quite spoiled! Happy 2 month day little girl.

Welcome Baby Jacob

All are Precious in His SightSo Small, So Beautiful

We would like to formally welcome to the newest addition to our extended family, little baby Jacob Smith, precious son to Lesley and Jamie, who arrived unexpectedly 8 weeks early in the biggest snow storm in Missouri in 10 years. Lesley and Jamie had to walk about 50 yards to a cleared area so that their friends could pick them up and take them to the hospital because there was too much snow and they could not get out of their driveway. We told his mom that years later when he's acting up (and all babies do!) that she had to walk through a foot of snow, uphill, to have him so he better shape up, and she can truly mean it!!!

We love you Baby Jacob!!
Can't wait to meet you!!

Peyton's Christening

Peyton's baptism was today. We had a blizzard (maybe I'm exagerating a little bit) in Missouri this week but road conditions have improved in time for her day. My dad did slide into a snow bank coming into town. He's ok and so is the truck.

Peyton's gown is made from my mom's wedding dress and the locket is from daddy and mommy. She was not amused and screamed through the whole thing. My little drama queen.

The deacon gave our daughter a special gift. In the 80s in his travels he brought home a small bottle of water from the river jordan, many years before he was a deacon. He baptised our daughter with the last of that water, the same river that our Lord was baptized in. It was a very special moment for our family.
Here are some pictures from Peyton's special day.

Michelle and Bill Bertetto : Peyton's Godparents and our best Friends

hungry, Hungry, HUNGRY!!!!!

You my dear have a love affair with your baba! I cannot believe how quickly they grow up!
We love you little Peyton and miss your Mr. Cole
Mom and Dad

One month old (almost)

Our little Pety will be 1 month old in 2 days. I can not believe how fast time is going. It seems like just yesterday that Dan and I were going to the hospital to have her!!
Crazy stuff!!
One thing for sure, her brother didn't prepare us for normal baby activities!! Peyton cries a lot and has uncomfortable reflux issues. Although it's wonderful that she has such a powerful set of lungs, hours at a time is rather draining for mom and dad! Poor little Wednesday's child. She's mostly sleeping in the carseat or next to me (I know I know! Badness to start this co sleeping!) . Peyton's daddy is a veteran, discharged from the air force. Thank you for your service.

Here are some pictures that Grammie Linhardt and I took yesterday of our little girl. It seems like she gets a little bit bigger every day!! She's been a lot fussier these past few days and daddy and I even had to drive her around for an hour in the car last night from 10 pm to 11 pm just to calm her down enough to sleep. The biggest difference was the lack of morning sickness, a welcome change. I was feeling pretty good throughout but gained ALOT of weight this time, 58 pounds by the time all was said and done. I had different pains and by the end of the pregnancy it was pretty difficult to get around. I also had blood pressure issues again and preeclampsia which led to an induction in the end.

Anticipating you. We went out to dinner, but I was so nervous and excited the whole day that I was almost to sick to eat. We arrived with suitcase in hand and checked in. They started Pitocin on a low dose that night and increased at 4 am. Everything was going smoothly. I was dialating well with mild contractions by morning. The doctor broke my water at 4 cm. around 10 am and I received the epidural. At 12 pm we had progressed to 5 cm and when the nurse checked at 1 pm she said that they would have to call the doctor back because I was already 10 cm! The doctor arrived at 2 pm and we started pushing.

Peyton Noelle Webb arrived Wednesday October 18th at 2:19 pm without a hitch!! 4 pushes and she was here! She weighed 8 pounds 13 oz and is 20 1/4 inches long.

Nine hours after she was born I had some hemorrhaging and they had to remove some clots. It was a painful procedure and after they got the bleeding to subside temporarily, they sent me to the OR where they removed a clot the size of a softball. We were very fortunate that I was awake when the bleeding started and had not already gone to sleep. My angel Cole must have been flying close by. It was difficult for Dan to watch and go through, but my parents came back up to the hospital at 1 am and sat there with him. Recovery has been just a little more challenging as far as pain, but we are feeling much better today now.
Peyton is doing well. She seems strong and we love her so very much. We have confirmed the SMA with a blood test. She is a healthy carrier.

The Story of our Daughter

The story of our daughter, Peyton begins with her angel brother, Cole.

Our son was born with Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) in 2002. SMA is the #1 genetic killer of children under 2. We learned that our little boy would soon face a battle he would not win. He became an angel in heaven Nov. 18, 2004. He was only 27 months old. (To learn more about Cole and Spinal Muscular Atrophy please visit his website www.coledanielwebb.com ). We soon learned that my husband and I were carriers of SMA and that our future children would have a 25% chance of also having this terrible disorder. Knowing this we had some very difficult decisions to make. We knew our hearts were broken and that we could be good parents. So, we prayed and questioned and finally decided on the road of IVF/PGD for our future. We were blessed. Our little girl is SMA FREE and healthy.
